What's it about?: When Bree gets a second chance at life, she decides horses must be a part of it even though her family doesn't understand her sudden interest. Her illness has left her body weak, but she gains strength when she teams up with an elderly man to help keep his deceased wife's dream alive. Will she have enough strength to take care of and train their October horses?
Likes:
Bree starts this book knowing nothing about horses, and her learning experience is realistic. She struggles and is clueless to start and she gradually makes progress with her riding and horse knowledge as the book progresses.
Bree's journey up until the start of this book could have been a book on its own! I do like that it is just her past and nothing more. Not many stories have a main character with a terminal illness as just a part of their past and not their main story.
Dislikes:
There is an element of magic at the very beginning of the book that does not continue throughout the book.
It was a slow start. It was good, but it took a while for the story to start really getting momentum.
Thoughts:
When I first saw this book I thought, "October? Horses? What isn't there to love in this book?" And overall I am very happy with this book!
I had a hard time putting this book down to go to sleep at night. And once I got to the end I wanted to immediately get the next book. This book ends happily, but it also sets up so many new things to happen! This book is over, but I can tell the real journey for all the characters is just beginning! Without reading the other books yet, this almost feels like a prequel to what will happen next.
I can't wait to pick up the next book to continue on this journey with the October Horses!
